ACS was founded by Prof. Peter P.C. Chou and six schools in Philadelphia 1974. It’s goals are to provide a forum for Chinese language and culture schools to share their common interests, to exchange views and ideas, to assist school activities, to improve the quality of teaching, to promote teaching Chinese into main stream of American education system. ACS is a non-profit, non-political independent organization. In its 25 years, ACS has grown from six original member schools to about 100, and about 25 thousand students. Right now our member schools are all over north east of America. ACS divide into 6 district, according to the geography location, which are: 1st district is New England area. 2nd district is Upstate New York area. 3rd district is New Jersey area, 4th district is South Jersey, PA, DE areas. 5th district is Maryland, Virginia, DC and North Carolina area. Last but not lease is 6th district is New York City and Long Island area. There are 9 directors on the board, and each director serves 3 years. Each year 3 directors will be replaced. Candidates for directors are nominated by school member for the association, and elected by the school member council with majority votes. Board of directors are include: a President, a Vice president, a Secretary, a Treasurer, a Memberships and mailing, a Nominations and rewards, a Publication and fund riser, a Web site and teaching material, a Workshop and competition. ACS holds an annual conference on Memorial weekend each year. It is the biggest event for our members, The conference program usually includes: Keynote speech, Teaching seminar, Students activities, Poster making competition, Speech competition, Chinese knowledge competition, Academics exhibition, Panel discussions and Evening performance. Also, ACS gives out many different awards to the teachers or students to encourage and reward for their effect and hard work in teaching or learning. More than fifteen thousand people attend the annual conference each year. By the way, our own web site "acsusa.org" is ready for function.
